Our final concert of the series features the well known piano duo Peter Donohoe and Martin Roscoe who will perform En Blanc et Noir and Jeux d’Enfants. Having formed their musical partnership as students, they have since been Editor’s Choice in Gramophone magazine, and reviewed by BBC
Music Magazine as “a remarkable achievement”.
The flamboyant, Romanian string quartet, the ConTempos join Emma Johnson, Chris West and our pianists for the final piece of the series. Saint-Saëns wrote his Carnival of the Animals to entertain himself and his friends whilst on holiday, and as such, did not consider it to be a serious piece of music, forbidding any performances during his lifetime. Nevertheless it has become one of the best loved of all French works.
Other concerts in the Leeds International Concert Season's French Impressions series curated by Emma Johnson:
Emma Johnson & Jean Marie Cottet
Chloë Hanslip & Charles Owen
Pascal Rogé
