Aleksandar Madžar - piano
The distinguished Serbian pianist presents a programme of two of Beethoven’s late sonatas written in 1820 and 1821 respectively. In these pieces he pushed the piano to what he felt was its expressive limits, before declaring it an 'unsatisfactory instrument'!.
In between these two works we hear Berg’s passionate piano sonata, written almost 100 years later and conclude with one of Schubert’s quirkiest and most attractive works; Known as the Gasteiner, it was written whilst the composer was on holiday in the mountain spa of Gastein.
