A biography of Michael Foyle
Michael started learning the violin at the age of four through the Suzuki Method. Following lessons with Ian Tyre, he gained Grade 8 with Distinction at the age of eleven, and an ABRSM Diploma in Performance three years later. Since 2006 he has been studying with Jerre Gibson at RSAMD Youthworks Music at the Academy where he also studies composition and leads the Symphony Orchestra. Michael led the National Children's Orchestra of Scotland in 2005 and 2006, and now plays with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. Michael toured China with NYOS Strings in 2004.
Michael has won several prizes including the Overall Instrumental Trophy at the Ayrshire Music Festival and the Open Violin class at the Glasgow Music Festival.
Michael is also a keen pianist, gaining Grade 8 with Distinction in 2004 and twice winning the Overall Piano Prize at the Ayrshire Music Festival. At the Glasgow Music Festival, he won the Piano Premier Prize and the award for the most outstanding performer under 14 in 2005 on this instrument.
Michael has given numerous recitals on piano and violin for charities and music clubs throughout Scotland.
